Distractive Tasks and the Influence of Driver Attributes

Driver distraction is a major problem nowadays, contributing to many deaths, injuries, and economic losses. Despite the effort that has been made minimize these impacts, considering technological evolution, at wheel tended increase. Not only tech-related tasks but every task captures driver’s attention impacts on road safety. Moreover, driver behavior characteristics are known be heterogeneous, leading distinct driving performance, which challenge in safety perspective. This study aimed capture effects of drivers’ personal aspects habits their behavior. Following within-subjects approach, convenience sample 50 drivers was exposed three unexpected events reproduced simulator. Drivers’ reactions were evaluated through models: Lognormal Model make analyze visual distraction, Binary Logit explore adopted type reaction, Parametric Survival reaction times. The research outcomes revealed perceived workload when they engaged specific secondary for attributes habits. Age showed statistical significance regarding times consistently related gender, BMI, sleep patterns, speed, while driving, distraction. habit engaging resulted cumulative better performance.
